Some news!

You guys have followed along as we’ve settled into our first home together. I decorated, redecorated, photographed and rephotographed every square inch of this place. It has been a labor of love in every sense of the word. Spencer proposed to me on the roof, my first (and only) magazine cover came from this living room, we hosted endless ridiculous dinner at our dining table. We are in love with this little condo of ours. But yesterday afternoon, we took the next step. We closed on a new house. I didn’t want to share anything on here until everything was finalized, and now it is.

(us in our new / about to be ripped out kitchen last night)

I keep comparing our moving to someone breaking up with a long distance boyfriend they know will never move for them. We love our current place, but long term it isn’t right for us. We need space to eventually have a family, and in our new home, we will. We aren’t moving to the burbs, its the same neighborhood we’re in now, just with more space.
When we put our house on the market I had a total melt down. I sat outside in my car sobbing as I watched strangers go into our open house. Crazy huh? Especially considering this whole moving thing was my idea to begin with! I love this condo, it has been an incredibly meaningful home to me in every way. But now, it is time for the next chapter and I can say, with 100% certainty, I am so excited for it.
Our new home is a serious project. As we speak they are demoing a large percentage of the interior space. Kitchen, master bath, powder room, floors, fireplaces and a couple other little things. Deep breaths.
We feel so lucky to be moving to home that we can customize and make our own. I know that one day, very soon, I will love our new house as much as I have loved this one because what I really love about this place are the people and the memories. Yeah. I’m a sap.
I will be posting about the progress, the decision making, and the process of the renovation and I hope you guys enjoy it. I know I have loved following along other bloggers’ home renos.

  1. Oh my goodness! Congratulations, this is huge! I’m excited to follow along!!! Can’t wait to see what you do with the place. Congrats, congrats, congrats!

  2. Congrats! We just bought a new house too. That makes three moves in three years. We bought our first baby home to our very first house and I thought we’d stay forever. Then we moved. We brought our second baby home to our second house and I thought we’d stay forever. Then we moved. Now we just closed on our third house (no, third baby this round) and I think we’ll stay forever. Until we move :) It’s such a bittersweet feeling but trust me, home really is where your heart is and your memories stay with you no matter when you reside. Best of luck on the move and renos, can’t wait to follow along!

  3. Congrats, Alex! What an exiting time for you guys. I know how hard it is to leave your first “home” together but it will be more than worth it. Excited to see everything come together!

  4. So excited for you guys!!! I had a feeling that’s what this Instagram was hinting at :)

I can totally relate to being sad to sell a house. While I’ve been renting my apartment for almost 2 years (and most likely will renew), I’m super attached. It’s my first place after college and my old roommate and I painted the entire place. The apartment has seen me through so much and I already know when the time comes to move, I’m going to have a hard time. Sending you a big hug! Can’t wait to see the progress on the new place!

  5. This is so exciting, but I can imagine that it will be hard to leave it behind because of the special place it holds in your heart. But I’m thrilled for you and I know the new house will mean even more great things for you (and maybe another Cover!) xo

  6. Woohoo!! So happy closing went without a hitch. Congrats on the new home — can’t wait to follow along. We can decorate our new places together (virtually, of course!). xo, vmac

  7. Congrats! Selfishly I’m SO excited because I love nothing more than home reno’s being documented by real people! Best of luck in the moving process! Cannot wait to follow along!

  8. Aww. I felt the exact same way when we moved from our “newlywed condo” to our current house now. We moved for all of the same reasons, and now we have a 19 month old, and I honestly feel like this house will be even harder to move from than the condo. Bittersweet for you, I am sure!! Yay for renovation though!!! so exciting!! :) Congrats!

  9. Congrats!! Can’t wait to follow your renovating journey! I know how hard it is to leave a place you poured your heart in to making your own even if it is for bigger and better things!! It will all he worh it!!

  10. I think your blog is amusing, but I’ve never understood people who “love” an inanimate object. Save your love for people, animals, and the environment.
