Some Bedroom Thoughts

I think I have the worst luck traveling of anyone I’ve ever known (remember when my Africa trip got flat out canceled after a year of planning?). I showed up at the airport yesterday to fly to NYC and my flight was delayed… indefinitely. They said if I boarded there was a risk we’d sit on the tarmac all day. For a 24 hour trip, and a very likely possibility of being delayed on my way out tomorrow, I just couldn’t do it. So, so sad to have missed out on meeting so many amazing bloggers. Well, what can you do? There’s always next year right?
Moving on… I’m in the never ending process of redoing my bedroom. Remember when I had you all vote on your favorite combinations? Well the boy nixed all options.Oh boys.
So I love the idea of bright white and beautiful bits of rich color.

Realistically, my bedroom won’t end up like this. The white walls and cool colors aren’t quite livable for me. Most likely I’ll end up with neutrals and one bold fabric like my initial voting post suggested. Something like this…

These two bedrooms are my all time favorites! The perfect balance between neutrals and color.
How do you like your bedrooms? Warm and neutral? Bright and colorful? Solid or patterned?

  1. I share your frustration, my guy vetoes anything remotely feminine (ok so I once suggested hot pink, but I just wanted to see if he was paying attention). At the moment ours is quite masculine with black furniture and blue accessories but I would love something light and colourful like the last image! I adore that wallpaper!

  2. I’m in the process of decorating my first place, and my bedroom is coming along nicely. I’m opting for a sandy color on the walls. The bedspread has an aqua and white pattern with lime green trim. It’s a pretty fun combo, and I plan to bring the green out with some accessories and custom artwork. Maybe a rug at some point too.

  3. I think neutrals and a splash of color/pattern are the way to go. You still obtain the fresh/clean look but can warm it up with some pretty fabrics. I am loving wallpaper these days, I wish I weren’t a renter of my little LP apartment! The last two images are gorgeous, and easily accomodating to the men in our lives!

  4. I love the first picture. My (rental) bedroom looks a lot like that – all white (minus the gorgeous white wallpaper) and my bed has a window about the same size behind the bed acting as a headboard, like the picture. I love the idea of a wall of sheers and structured drapes on either side, framing the wall. Also, the glossy black painted floors would be to die for. Beautiful collage of bedrooms. Thanks Alex

  5. Ugh, I’m the same– I have the worst luck traveling. My family always jokes about making me fly alone so the curse doesn’t extend to our trips.

The last one– so pretty!!! And I don’t even normally like pink!

  6. I am so sorry you didn’t get to go!! That sucks big time!! Damn air travels!! I love an all white bed with some color on the walls or a fun rug! Love the wallpaper in the last picture!

  7. Oh no am so sorry about your trip!! After all the planning and excitement! You must do something special for yourself!

I adore the coral accents and the bedroom choices are perfect!

  8. You seriously do not have good luck with traveling!!! That is such a huge bummer…)c: You will have to cheer yourself up with some decorating! Love your inspiration pic and that is definitely how I go about decorating…that and the random stream that is my thought process! I don’t even know your boy and I am slightly frustrated with him (c: hehehe…and yeah, you can tell him I said that!

  9. Sadness about your trip, but yay for beautiful bedrooms and bedroom planning. My problem is that I can see way too many styles working in our bedroom and can’t seem to narrow down just one. With our rental white walls, we’ll most likely have a similar approach… white walls with pops of color on the bed/ in the accents.

  10. Awwww..I’m sorry about your trip.

But you’ve got quite a collection of inspirations for the bedroom there. I’m sure the new project will keep you busy in a fun way and cheer you up some more.

I painted an accent wall in my bedroom a dark charcoal grey and the rest white. It turns out quite nicely – although doesn’t look as polished as that second photo from the last. Wah, I’m wishing for the high ceiling!

  11. Neutral with pops of bright are very in right now, and IMHO totally livable!

I’m not usually a floral person, but that 3rd room is gorgeous. I like that it’s pretty but has enough contrasts going on that it’s a bit bold too.

  12. I really like that first image – that blanket really makes the whole room! Boys are troublesome when it comes to decorating, right? And sorry to hear about your flight debacle!

  13. That bedroom IS what i want mine to look like too!!! White, clean and fresh with a pop of color, maybe evn in all items I can change out for the season, charcoals in winter, and red/oranges in summer…well I think I just thought of how I’m going to go spice mine up! :)

  14. Lovely bedroom images..i like mine warm and neutral..i just found your blog today and absolutely love it! i’m your latest follower..do visit my blog as well when you have a moment..it would be lovely if you would follow me too! xx meenal

  15. Can I just move into all of those rooms right now?! I’m feeling all-white bedding with pops of color these days. I’m repainting the purple accent wall to match the gray in the rest of our bedroom this weekend.

My fiance always nixes my fun, sometimes outlandish, design ideas so I feel your pain.

Can’t wait to see your reveal!

  16. What a bummer! You must have been frustrated.. but there will be more! These are all such different yet beautiful images. I can’t wait to see you bedroom reveal!

  17. So sad that the stupid travel gods were not helping you out yesterday and that I missed meeting you…superboo on that one!! On a positive note, your bedroom is going to be fabulous- not a doubt in my mind on that one. xoxo

  18. :( but the weather is pretty icky up here…rain, rain and more rain. Last night we had thunderstorms and hail in some areas. Sorry you had to miss your trip, though.

I know the feeling of being travel jinxed. I usually find myself running through Houston airport at breakneck speed. It’s always Houston for some reason. LOL

  19. Oh goodness, you are due for some good karma Alex! I’m sorry your trip didn’t pan out.

However, I will say that I strongly recommend a dark teal wall. Best decorating decision I’ve made to date. Get ready for some touch ups, though.

  20. I prefer mine to be a bit dark and moody with a hint of glam. I’ve gone with a whole new colour scheme for our new bedroom but it will be a slow process to get it all done and working around existing furniture. Mostly it’ll be purple-grey-silver.

  21. Oucharoo. That Africa trip cancellation even stung me. Well now that your trip got canceled I guess that just means you have more time to bedroom plan. :) The first image is my favorite.

  22. i like warm an neutral with maybe a pop of color somewhere. i have the same problem as you – negotiation with the bf…’

ps – sorry to hear about your flight :(
