So apparently my grandparents can read minds, or my blog, or something like that, because we received the most incredible engagement present EVER. A weekend trip to PARIS!!!
And we leave in 3 weeks. I am still in shock. I feel so incredibly lucky and speechless.
Amazingness. Enter… planning mode.
So I would love recommendations for anyone and everyone! What should we do? Where should we go? What should we eat? EVERYTHING please!
I’m still AMAZED and in love with your grandparents- best engagement present EVER! xo
what wonderful grandparents! so exciting!
Oh my gosh that’s so exciting!!! I was in Paris but only for a couple days, of course the champs elysees is a must! New follower of your blog, xoxo
Best thing ever! Im so jealous right now
Lucky girl!! I used to live in Paris and my hubby and I go all the time. We take the city by area’s when we go. I love the Monmarte area by Sacre Coeur.. best views of the city plus you can get some fabulous artwork. I have 2 incredible prints that I bought in “artist square” in Monmarte framed and hanging in my family roon. Of course Notre Dame is a must as well. After Notre Dame walk behind it to Ile St. Louis for some fabulous ice cream. There is an awesome restaurant on Ile st louis called I’iot aux vaches.
In regards to the L’Ouvre I would just go and see what you want to see, mon lisa, Venus de Milo etc because that place is so huge and overwhelming. I love Musee d’orsay much smaller and lots of Monet. A trip to the top of the Eiffel tower is a must. I also love going to the eiffel tower at night, it sparkles every hour on the hour.
In regards to shopping it is awesome but you can definitely spend some money. The Champs Eylsees is the main street for shopping.
Your grandparents are awesome!! So jelly
I only have one recommendation since I have never been to Paris…you should take me!:) I cannot wait to hear about your trip.
If you love fabric and have space to bring some back (b/c you will want to!) go to the fabric district, down the hill from Sacre Coeur in Monmarte. Stores likes like Marche Sainte Pierre (http://www.marchesaintpierre.com/)or Tissus Reine (http://www.tissus-reine.com/) are good and huge! I got some amazing fabrics for great prices. Might be tough to fit it in with all the other amazing things to see, but it’s fun! Enjoy your trip!
Definitely go to O-Chateau wine bar.68, rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau in the 1st arrondissement. Métro Louvre -Rivoli (Line 1) or Etienne Marcel (line 4). a 6-minute walk from the Louvre. Olivier, the owner is awesome. They give 20% off on Saturday nights if you have a foreign passport. And while you are in Monmarte, stop at Denise Acabo’s candy store, the chocolate is delicious. Go to http://www.agirlsguidetoparis.com, it is very helpful. They have walking tours that cost a $1.50, I think, that you can download.
Have fun!!
I totally agree with jill – trips to Notre Dame and Musee D’Orsay are a must. If you want to combine shopping with museums, the Louvre actually has really nice shopping downstairs.
Just SOOOO exciting!!! I want to go!! I heard that the Louvre has a great restaurant that is amazing but always super busy…the best time to go eat there is on Tuesday, b/c the the Louvre itself is closed but the restaurant is still open. Other than that…eats lots of crepes and talk as many strolls as possible! Enjoy!!! xo
What an amazing trip it will be! I visited Paris when I was in high school. I loved the Louvre, Musee d’Orsay, and remember eating a lot of chocolate croissants! You’ll have the best time!
OMG amazing, enjoy every minute of it in that wonderful city!!!
Amazing!!!! Paris is a magical city and you will LOVE it. Where are you staying? I have a few recommendations so I will email you

Wow you have the best grandparents on earth!!! Paris is so magical and so romantic. You should take a walk from the Louvre to the Eiffel tower at dusk. Be sure to walk along the Seine for part of it. Its incredibly romantic and magical to see the city light up.

what an amazing gift! i backpacked through europe after college graduation and paris was tied with Rome for my favorite place out of everywhere!
my favorite thing we did there was a big tire bike tour AT NIGHT through paris. after you tour on the bike you take a boat cruise down the river drinking wine. best tour on our entire trip!

Are your grandparents by chance looking for a 40 year old with 3 great kids a super husband and a unrivaled thrist for all things Paris? What a beautiful gift!! You will create the most beautiful memories there, and maybe you can turn it into a yearly thing.

OMG!!! Such a lucky girl! I’ve been having wanderlust for Paris recently too and I have it BAD. I recently did a recap of my wanderlust cravings, but I think Oh Happy Day’s Paris guide hits the nail on the head. You better share every detail so those of us back home can live vicariously through you! xo
Gadzooks that is incredible. Enjoy it! I went back in ’08 but can’t remember all the nice places now. Darn it.
that is ridonculous. ok, so im actually going next weekend. i wish we would overlap. we could share a bottle of wine…. but instead, i’ll just tell you this: go to le marais to l’as du falafel. stand in the long line, and have your life changed.
secondly, get a bottle of wine, baguette, macarons, meats, boursin, butter, fruit, olives and head down to the seine for dinner. it’s what all the “cool kids” do… and it’s a blast. in fact, i may have stayed there. you might just see me.
that’s amazing! yay! hope you enjoy your trip!
I’m actually going to Paris next weekend, so I’ll send you a list of tips when I get back
xx
You are SO VERY LUCKY! I’ve never been to Paris so I can only give you best wishes and hope you have a blast!
I’ll be here waiting for your pics
Oh my gosh that is the best gift ever! They are SO sweet! That is amazing. Definitely go to the Champs Elysees. Also you have to see the Eiffel tower twinkling at night! It is the most amazing thing ever and you will love it especially since you love *sparkle*
I can’t remember exactly where we ate but we did have a glass of wine at this little casual place on the Siene river (next to the tower) after we climbed the tower and it was so amazing to relax with a glass of wine with a view of the river and the tower! Also, Kelli just got back from there so I’ll have her send you recs as well! Ahhh you are going to have a blast! I went in the end of Oct too and it wasn’t too cold so you will be able to wear perfect fall outfits
Have a blast!!! xoxo Lisa
how amazing! i was there a month ago, and i’m already antsy to go back. a few tips, some i’ve noticed above too. my trip was during absolutely perfect weather, so a lot involves being outdoors–hopefully you are lucky in that department too!:
- musee d’orsay is a MUST.
- musee rodin is also a must in my book, although much of it is in a garden outside, so, weather pending…
- montmartre was my favorite spot for walking, tons of cute boutiques, less crowded, and a GORGEOUS view up at the sacre coeur.
- the eiffel tower at night, of course (the thing startled the hell out of me when i first arrived! it would just pop out around unexpected corners wandering around)
- luxembourg gardens — bring a baguette and wine and hang out. a beautiful little (but actually huge) sanctuary in the city.
you can’t go wrong stopping at any patisserie for a pain au chocolat, taking it to the nearest sidewalk cafe, ordering a cafe creme and people watching.
my number 1 piece of advice is to just start walking! it’s the best way to see the city. i must have logged 100 miles in my ballet flats (bad idea), but once you get a feel for the layout and the metro, it’s so much fun to wander. and the best part about paris is every few blocks you run into some other epic monument. (don’t forget to bring a map, just in case
ahh, so jealous. have so much fun!
WOW! That is soooo exciting! Congrats!
Omg, amazing! Best treat ever. No matter what you do, will be amazing. My favorite boutiques are in the Marais district. XO!
gorgeous picture, where’s it from?!
make sure you take a tour of versailles, DEFINITELY worth the train ride (30 mins or less!)

What an incredible engagement present! I’m a new follower of your blog and absolutely love it! I was in Paris for 10 days in May, you really can’t go wrong, but some of my favorites-Cafe Constant, Hotel Thoumieux (go for dinner and watch the eiffle tower sparkle as you stroll home) and for the best people watching and an amazingly cool vibe-go for brunch at L’Estaminet in the Marche’ des Enfants Rouges in the Marais! Have so much fun, can’t wait to see pictures!
