A Mini Art Tour

I love art. And although I’ve shown you quite a few of my pieces (the Nicole Cohens, the Amanda Talley, the scarf) there are so many small guys that I haven’t shown. So I thought it would be fun to take you on an art tour around my house.

This is a piece I actually had to do for class and I loved the way it turned out. A hand drawn butterfly composed of scripty letters.

A beautiful embossed and watercolor drawing of a map of Nantucket (my happy place). This was a gift from my mom.

A gift from my sister. A photograph she took of graffiti in Amsterdam. I just loved it. So rough. Such perfect composition.

A silhouette that hangs in our guest bathroom. My grandma made this for my when I was 6 years old. When she moved out of her house last year, she found it and had it framed for me. I love it. Except… my hair???

A photograph I took on my first trip to Nantucket with Spencer. The lighting in this image is totally off, but we captured the most perfectly beautiful sunset in the harbor and the just blooming hydrangeas. Its just so Nantucket.

Long, weird story. Won’t go into it. I am not usually a fan of hearts, but this has some sentimental value for me. And I love love love the texture.
I know I’ve said it a million times before, but there is nothing better to me than art that has some meaning. Almost every single piece I have has some special background to it. These pieces are what really make my home, my home!
What are your most treasured pieces of art?

  1. Wow Alex – I love these pieces, they are all so personal! The butterfly you did with script letters is UNREAL – you should create more! You have serious talent, friend! And that silhouette is so sweet- your haircut was sweet, after all, you were a little girl then! BTW – it looks perfect set against your wallpaper! Your entire collection is fabulous! xo

  2. I like the use of both warm and cool colors in the embossed watercolor drawing. I have a handpainted canvas I picked up in Africa that I cherish. An eclectic mix of art always makes for a well furnished home!

  3. Oh how I loved seeing this gorgeous collection- adore the butterfly you did (hello talent:) and the graffiti piece- the silhouette of you is adorable and how sweet of your grandmother to have it framed:) I love how art holds memory and sentiment- definitely makes a house a home. xo

  4. Oh I love art too. You have a nice mixed collection. I like that everything has a history and it’s not just straight off etsy.

My favorite pieces are from my Nana. It’s such a treat to have original art, isn’t it?

  5. I’m working on filling my home with artwork that has meaning, starting with photographs from my talented photographer friends. Three, so far, have agreed to choose something from their collection they think I would like. I can’t wait to see what they choose. :)

  6. What an awesome collection, Alex. One of my favorite pieces of art is a painting of a man and woman that was originally part of the decor of a NYC Kate Spade store–how cool, right?

  7. I love your collection, especially the butterfly you made! It’s incredible! I love having things on my walls that mean something… my favorite is a poster from the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam, which my husband had framed for me a few years ago.

  8. So fun to see your artwork! I always love collecting art when I travel-it allows me to go back to the location I visited whenever I look at it and reminds me of my trip!

  9. The silhouette is adorable! I agree with you about personalized artwork. My favorite piece is actually a skirt that I absolutely loved in high school. It’s a gorgeous pattern, but the skirt itself is way out of style. So I framed it with a plain matting and now it’s one of my favs.

  10. I also framed a scarf I bought on a trip to Italy with my mom, and I’d rather look at it everyday and be reminded of the trip than have it sit in my closet. Plus it looks amazing! PS ACK is my happy place too :)

  11. What a wonderful collection and great stories to match! I love the silhouette from your grandma and I’m sure your hair was adorable. I have a painting similar to the heart you have. A friend got it for me and I absolutely love it.
