Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is not one of those holidays where I have a picture of Spencer and I from every year, but we do like to go out to a special little dinner. When we first graduated from college and moved back to Chicago, we didn’t realize that Valentine’s Day was a seriously big deal at restaurants. So a week before, Spencer tried to make reservations at about every restaurant in the entire city and we couldn’t get in anywhere. We both had roommates so cooking at home wasn’t the most romantic option. I just figured we’d have to celebrate the day before or the day after, until my roommate offered up her sister’s reservation, she had decided to stay home and before cancelling offered it up to us..  Neither of us eat sushi, but we took the reservation. Needless to say I was a bit of a brat about celebrating at a restaurant where they served food we didn’t eat.
Well, we got there and were completely surprised. The atmosphere was great, and the non-sushi menu was incredible. Turned out to be one of our very favorite meals we’ve ever had. So in honor of that night, we have gone there for every Valentine’s Day since. Its a tradition that I look forward to every single February.
Although this restaurant isn’t the most fancy, I love dressing up for Valentine’s Day. It gives you a perfect excuse for a new dress and a pretty outfit. So this year, I’d like to be wearing this:

The shoes are girly and soft, whereas the rose gold watch gives it some edge. Love the entire look! And so looking forward to our dinner.
Do you have any big Valentine’s plans? Or do you brush off the silly holiday?

  1. That’s such a cute tradition you guys have. I’ve spent about every V-day away from my boyfriend since we went to different colleges.. and this year is shaping up to be the same. I think I’m going to spend it with my best friends sipping champagne and baking v-day treats. Adorable outfit!

  2. I love traditions like that :) My boyfriend and I went to Johnny Rockets for milkshakes a movie two years ago and it was one of my favorite Valentines Days to date. Hope you guys have a great time :) Take pictures in your cute outfit!

  3. Thats such a cute story and love the outfit picks. We usually do something pretty low key for Valentines day but last year on Valentines day is when we got engaged so I think it will hold an extra special place in my heart from now on.

  4. What a memorable, fun story! We celebrated last Valentine’s Day at home; my boyfriend surprised me by getting out of work early, putting my new desk together, making a seared steak for supper, and then topped it off with a couple of gifts and asking me to move in with him. I don’t know if he can ever top that! This year we’re going to a wedding out of town the weekend before Valentine’s Day, and we both have a busy week at work, so we’re just going to go out for dinner. We’ll have to make reservations soon, though!

  5. Super cute story! Don’t worry – I was a brat the first time I went to a sushi restaurant too but ended up loving it. We’ve decided to try something different this year and make a big, fancy, gourmet meal together at home in our pjs and drink copious amounts of wine… on a Tuesday.

  6. I love that you go to the same place! David and I had a res that we made like 3 months ago and then my parents gave me the bulls tickets… so we will be celebrating there instead:) I would like to wear those shoes though any day of the week.

  7. Alex, the BF and I go to the same place every Vday too! It is our little tradition and we love it. Don’t you think it would be so cute if you two got married and continue to go there when you are 50? It is just adorable. Digging that outfit as well. So sweet :)

  8. LOVE your ensemble!!! I have that DVF clutch in hot pink and have yet to wear it out. Valentine’s would be a perfect time but I doubt we do anything. Oh well! xxoox

  9. How adorable!!! Love that you guys go there every year now. We definitely celebrate Valentine’s Day but we don’t go out for it every year. Often it’s a pain…the menu is prix fixe and the service not so great so we’ll do it the night before or after. But we always do something special that day. A romantic dinner at home with drinks, chocolate, chocolate covered strawberries, gifts, flowers. That sort of thing :)

    xoxo

  10. that outfit is so cute! i generally try to avoid the valentine’s day rush and go out to dinner the weekend before/after. there’s still the valentine’s day feel, but without the crowds and commotions. it may seem dull, but i like it :)

  11. love the grey mixed w/ pink and rose gold! so pretty and soft and romantic! We always go out for sushi (the real thing ;) ).
