today issue #2 of Rue Magazine came out. it was the most perfect cure for this gloomy, rainy, monday morning. i sat in bed and oogled every single page. it was amazing. the second half of it even more so (the first half seemed to be a lot of things other than home decor). the vignette shots in this magazine are absolutely to die for and trust me, i saved them all. but for now, i will share some of my favorite rooms.

i just love black and white art. but black and white art in a gold frame takes it to a new whole new level. these pieces would be nothing without the fantastic frames that hold them.

this weekend i am going to experiment with painting again. specifically black and white painting. we’ll see how it goes. the first time was definitely not a success.

this weekend i attended a black and white ball where the girls/women were all beautifully dressed. i was surprised at how many dresses i was ooohing and aahhhing over. the boys/men of course looking perfect in their tuxes. but it got me thinking about black and white decor, and how in it is right now.








do you have black and white in your home? do you think its too severe, so you substitute grey? (aka ME) do you add pops of color to brighten it? what do you think of this “trend”?

i truly believe that art transforms a space. a room is not complete without it. but i also know not everyone feels this way. so here are some examples of living rooms, to convert you to an art believer.

this room would be nothing without that colorful piece on the fireplace. it ties absolutely everything together. go ahead, cover it in the picture… the room falls apart.

how about this room? (it is madeline weinrib’s living room). it would not be nearly as pulled together if it werent for those two black and whites (in a gold frame, my favorite). they bring everything together.

my last example (i could go on for days), the piece in the corner completely anchors the entire room. it pulls it all together with its darkness.

ryan korban’s portfolio is insane. i love every single thing he does. from the last pic (his own bedroom), second to last edon manor (a retail space), just above that alexander wang’s office (that chain link table…omg), and other beauties. i love the textures and color contrasts. heaven.

absolutely love these two black and white rooms. similar “themes” but such different feels. the painted wood floor and white cabinetry is so modern, and in this case a little masculine. whereas the family room shot is warm and a little more on the traditional side. i love them both but if you made me choose… i’d go with the second. gawwwgeous.
