When you read this, I will just have landed in Copenhagen! So, this week while I am out, I have asked some of my favorite entrepreneurs to fill in for me. With so much inspiration around with blogs and pinterest, I am starting to feel like design is a little oversaturated.
The more I see the more I realize there has become a “blog look” to a lot of homes. There is nothing wrong with it, actually its really nice. There is even a little bit of a formula to achieve it.
It creates a really fun, bold, accessible look. What do you think? Is it popular because its classic or because its everywhere?
it’s probably popular because its easy to change up a few small pieces and create a new look on the cheap. but i do love it. hope you’re having fun!
the parsons desk is the only part that I consider to be really classic. I love it. Maybe the beige sofa but I feel like thats slightly less common than the other parts. I’ve grown a little tired of chevron and all of the geometric pillows, but not because there is anything wrong with them, it just feels really predictable since it’s everywhere. But I agree with christin, it’s easy to change up which is good for people who are constantly getting inspired.

It’s true, but I don’t hate it! I can’t get enough of geometric pillows these days. And I do want a white parsons desk, though I think that is more classic — simple design will never go out of style.
I would have to say a little bit of both. But I’m hoping it’s more on the classic side because I’ve invested quite a bit of money in these different options.
It’s an easy look to put together and to not screw up. But for the designers out there, it’s fun to go a little more bold and daring, to take risks with your decor.

now that you mention it, a lot of the inspiration pictures i’m seeing are incredibly similar to this. i’m actually a little disappointed! but in all honesty, i am such a sucker for those parson tables – they’re so pretty haha

I have to agree with some of the commenters above. It’s easy because you can swap about some of the accents for when they become outdated/you get sick of them. Have an awesome trip!
SO true! You nailed the look and I think it’s popular because it’s accessible.
I think the biggest problem lies in the execution. If cheap cottons and fabrics are used to make this scheme happen, then it shows. If it were simply about combining interesting colours or patterns, more of the internet would find itself in the pages of Elle Decor and AD.
I think championing knocking things off, copy cats, looks for less has watered the entire design market down to a lowest common denominator. I wish more blogs would speak out against the blatant stealing that others promote or sites such as Spoonflower which is knock off central.
There is much to be said for working hard, saving up and executing quality vs as close as you can get. Hard to respect the cheap, poorly executed knock offs.
I was just thinking about chevron the other day. I like it, but I don’t know how much more of it my eyes can take. I think it’s time to move on.

Haha totally true! Add in some metallic knick knacks and a lucite chair and you’re set! Maybe it’s just because everyone wants to be like the designer bloggers, just like everyone wants a piece of what celebs wear? But also I think it’s because we can see the designs working together, and it’s a non-thinking approach, it’s already laid out for us on the internet, and with everyone putting a note of where everything is from, it’s so so easy to just pick up those items and recreate the looks, even if it is someone else’s design!! x
i think it’s definitely a modern classic, but i’ll be curious to see how long the chevron, trellis, quatrefoil, etc. trend hangs on. hopefully a while, as i sit on my beige couch with pink+white chevron pillows…haha
Very interesting observation and so true! I think it is a bit of both. I think the beige sofa and parsons table will also be a classic base but think the patterns that accent them will always be changing. I still love chevron — it can always make me smile…but think that it is important to mix it with other patterns to make sure a room doesn’t look “passé”. Have a great trip!
It’s so true! I definitely noticed that and I must say, it’s getting a little tiring. It’s a great look because it’s classic and easy, but with added trendy elements, but it’s also pretty tame as far as design is concerned. I much prefer bold, brave, unexpected interiors.
